Heard of gemlights yet? Introducing the newest ashy-toned hair colour trend to hit Instagram, and our imagination, this season. It’s a seriously good micro-trend that is looking to be huge for blondes and light brunettes who feel like indulging in a mystical change for their hair look.
From the beautiful, feminine hues of rose quartz to the lights and brights of sapphires, gemlights has a unique variation to suit every style and taste.
So far, we’ve seen striking, yet soft amethyst tones, soft pinks and beautifully bejewelled blues and greens. This hair trend is highlights with a difference and we, for one, can’t wait to see how it evolves on the Gram.
Whether you believe in the powers of gemstones or not, we’re 100% sure you’ll believe in the beauty of this hair look. Mixing up regular highlights with jewelled colour, create your own unique ‘do, perfect for a transitional season make-over and ideal for blondes who are already particularly ashy in tone.
This hair colour trend is all about creativity and personality, so make sure you do your research before heading into the salon and take in lots of inspiration pictures to make sure you and your colourist are on the same page.
One colour all over not your thing? The more creative, the better, so don’t be afraid to mix it up and take on a few gemstone colours in one look. Refinery 29 posted this beautiful image of gem highlights that might just be our favourite. Using tones “inspired by rose quartz, amethyst, angelite and green aventurine”, the look is both multi-tonal and textured, serving up some real crystal loveliness. The look screams soft waves, which allows the colours to shine through, adding texture and revealing all the hues of your gemstones choice.
Some colourists have bought the gemlights trend into the world of ombré. Starting unusually at the roots, rather than the lengths of the hair, this stylist covers the roots with a striking amethyst shade of lavender, faded softly out into the ashy blonde tones of the rest of the hair. Styled in aid of the client’s trip to Coachella, we can’t imagine another hair ‘do more perfect for the occasion.
One way to create a new look for blondes for the upcoming autumn season, gemlights keeps hair ashy and bright with just a hint of colour, allowing you to experiment with soft hues but without too drastic a transition. If you’re bored of your balayage or simply fancy an update to your look, have a chat to your colourist about this all-new hair trend and take the plunge for the new season.
With very light, ash tones being used to create this look, it’s well worth asking your stylist about including an Olaplex treatment to your colour. Helping to heal and fix broken bonds in the hair, the treatment, which is a three-part process, will help to ensure minimal damage to your locks through the use of bleach and colour.
