Believe it or not, we’re actually almost halfway through the year already. 2018 has already been a creative montage of hair and beauty trends like we’ve never seen before. Micro-trends flashing across social media (in particular, Instagram) have been at an all-time high, throwing new looks and crazy beauty ideas at us from every direction.
As we near the half-way point in the year, we decided to take a quick look back and review some of our favourite Insta hair trends of the year, so far. From flashes of rainbow colour to soft, icy hues, this year, it seems like we’ve really seen it all.
Here are some of our favourite trends, so far.
Mermaid hair and really anything mythological has been on-trend all year, so far. However, this mermaid melt hair really topped the charts for us. The smooth transition between neon blues, greens and yellows are what makes this colour creation live up to its famous melt name.
Gem roots hair
This crystal-inspired Insta trend started with deep violet root shades and fades into multi-tonal pastel beautifulness, and we were (and still are!) loving it. First spotted by Allure, this look is Instagram-centric to a tee, so there’s no surprise it has popped up on our list of top trend picks for 2018.
Tequila sunrise hair
One of our new favourites, spotted earlier this month, tequila sunrise hair packs just as much punch as the cocktail it’s aptly named after. A stunning myriad of oranges, tangerines, peaches and corals, this hair colour had us dreaming of summer at the beginning of May and we can’t wait to rock it on the beaches of our well-deserved summer holiday.
Ultra violet hair
It was hailed as the colour of the year by Pantone and, of course, that meant the hair and beauty world took a piece of the pie. Ultra Violet brought a flash of feminine vibrancy to hairstyles worldwide, from root to tips or in the form of deliciously vivid balayage and ombré styles.
Pink lemonade hair
Instagram has really been loving their drink-inspired hair trends of late, and this one is no exception. Popularised by famous stylist, Guy Tang, pink lemonade hair brought with it all the cool and refreshing notes of this signature drink with a palette of pinks and corals that had us literally obsessed when it broke at the end of February. We love the smooth transition of colours and subtle ombré that really brings this look to life.
Halo Top hair
Instagram has been going absolutely mental for food-inspired hair trends over the past year, and 2018 has been no exception. The latest in a craze for colours that pop, Halo Top hair took its inspiration from the packaging of the famous Halo Top ice cream and all its funky flavours. Think vibrant hues of deep black cherry, ultra-light lilac, soft caramel tones and red velvet for a colour that looks good enough to eat!
Can you believe that this a run-down of the year’s hottest Insta hair trends, so far, and it’s only May!? We can only imagine the looks due to hit Instagram throughout summer and on the countdown to the start of autumn/winter 18. Looks like 2018 is going to be one of the best years for Instagram hair trends yet!
