Beauty vloggers have taken over from the original beauty blogger.
There’s something about watching a pro in real life that really gives you the “I can do it” feeling, even if deep down, you know you probably can’t. From bushy eyebrow tutorials to Coachella-worthy hair braiding and glitter partings, whatever you’re in to, you can find a little help online in the form of an inspirational (and usually funny) video. And who couldn’t use a little beauty assistance from time to time?
This week, we’re looking at our top 5 current beauty vloggers. It’s a tough list to condense because of the pure talent we are seeing more and more of on our phones, computers, laptops, smart TV screens etc. Basically, if it’s got a screen, we’re watching a beauty tutorial.
Carli Bybel
With nearly 6 million subscribers on YouTube, Carli Bybel has built her hair and beauty channel phenomenally since its launch in 2011. Alongside more chatty vlogs and house tours, Carli is famous for her expert make-up tips and applications. Her recent collaboration with fashion giant, Missguided was so successful, the brand’s website actually crashed.
Michelle Phan
Making the list and with almost 9 million YouTube subscribers, is the legend of Michelle Phan. With millions of views on every single one of her videos, Michelle’s ‘Mastering The Art’ of videos include tips on hair removal to her favourite ways of sunless tanning. Although currently on a break from her YT channel, Michelle’s videos continue to gain views and comments from her loyal fans awaiting her return to the beauty world.
Patrick Starr
From his collaborations with Mac Cosmetics to his famous Katy Perry make-up tutorial, Patrick Starr is the Filipino MUA and YouTube sensation diversifying the beauty industry and making waves with male make-up. He’s serious about make-up and when it comes to beautiful drag transformations, he’s the real deal. He’s a gender-neutral icon and his videos are not only informative, inspirational and artistic but hilarious as well. It’s everything you want from a beauty vlogger.
Jeffree Star
What list of beauty vloggers could be complete without the controversial star of the beauty world – Jeffree Star? Owner of his own cosmetics line and never one to shy away from controversy, Jeffree Star has racked up an impressive 6 million YouTube subscribers and covers everything from new product releases to full face make-up tutorials. He’s well known for his super honest reviews and fantastic, dry wit – and he’s particularly well known for his honest review of Kylie Cosmetics $300 brush kit.
Dulce Candy
Dulce Candy is a Mexican-born beauty vlogger who has a subscriber following of way over 2 million on YouTube. Specialising in DIY make-up and hair tutorials, she has built herself into a brand name and even has a book out. Having started videoing herself in 2008, Dulce has now worked with brands including L’Oreal, Olay and Cover Girl, leveraging herself to serious expert standards.
Patricia Bright
Patricia Bright has over 2 million subscribers to her channel and continues to gain fans with her English humour, DIY hair tutorials and realer-than-real make-up trials. Having started her channel in 2010 and going fulltime with it in 2013, Patricia has taken her love of hairstyling and extensions and moved onto starring with Olivia Palermo in a recent Bobbi Brown campaign and creating a brand with nearly 1 million followers on Instagram. This is one beauty entrepreneur who knows what she wants.
Whether you like to closely watch and copy make-up tutorials or simply have a little beauty chatter in the background as you get ready, these accounts should be at the very top of your watch list this spring.
